                                             SOFT ROCKS INTERVIEW

Hey guys, thanks for the mix! Please tell us who makes up the Soft Rocks crew and where you
are all from?

Four men with extra baggage, facial hair and large 12 inches, Brighton / London our are
current residencies

How did you meet and do you each bring a different dynamic to the group?

We were joined through our love of music, and we each bring something unique to the
group. Justin Lee Collins' brings stability and hot air, Dan Akroyd' s the sensibleness &
occasional finance, Alan Carr's the flashbacks, and lastly 'Bartez' who looks after the
buffoonery.

How do you handle DJ duties between the four of you?

Depends on the type of gig, the venue, who's found the best records that week.

You have also had live gigs with Kathy Diamond. How did that go and do have plans for more
live shows?

All good, Kathy is very busy working on her new LP, but whenever we get the chance to do
something it's always cool as she's a diamond

What's been your most memorable gig so far?

At a party in Brighton in 2006 when a guy came up to us and said...'what kind of genre of
music do you call this mate'.

How would you describe the Soft Rocks sound?

Out of the ordinary whilst remaining funky, rhythmic and melodious.

I think the first time I saw the name "Soft Rocks" was on the David Astri edit that came out a few
years ago. Did you have any releases before then as a group or individually?

Just the one 'Purple rinse / Inside the wave' (Soft Rocks 001).

Would you describe your productions as edits?

As the story has unfolded so far yes ... we try and add a bit more to them than just cutting
and splicing (adding synths, percussion etc) . But in the next up and coming chapters the
releases on Soft Rocks Recordings will be mainly original pieces and the album will be all
original music, and maybe a couple of cover versions.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your productions and mixes?

From Rock To House - Jazz To Boogie

What's it like running your own label Soft Rocks Recordings and who is responsible for the
fantastic cover art?

Good fun...Hard work...Joyous....we have many scouts out scanning the world for those
great lost artistic moments...just wait to you see the artwork for disco powerplay IV & V..
photographic genius.

Are there any future releases that we should look out for?

Umut 2000 / Slowdown (October)
Chocolate Love II (October / November)
Disco Powerplay IV (November / December)

Remixes:

Jose Manuel – Ballo Di Sgualdrine (Black Pepper Records) – Out Now.
Discos Sessions – TV Scene (Crue-l Records) – Out soon.
MGMT – Of Moons, Birds, and Monsters – Oct 2008.

What is your involvement with the vinyl specialist store Pure Pleasure Music and how's
business?

I (Chris G) run it, and the rest of Soft Rocks are fans of good music and spending their hard
earned cash on lost gems is their pastime. Business is cool , good fun, a labour of love as
much as it is a business these days....
