VäSKUSTSKA RYGGDUNKARäLLSKAPET INTERVIEW
Hello guys! Please tell us what Västkustska Ryggdunkarsällskapet means (it's quite a
mouthful to me!) and who are involved?
Well. It consists of Göran Dahlström aka Sankt Göran, Anton Qlint and Edvin Edvinson who
together creates the duo TieDye. The name means "The back tapping society of the west-
coast". We came up with it out of a quite annoying period last year when people critisized our
way of doing our dj thing. People thought that we were keeping people of the decks in our
clubs since we mainly booked each other and djs from abroad – tapping each others backs.
Quite rediculous, we book each other because we're the best of friends...
Can you tell us a bit more about the tracks on the mix? Like from what era does it come
from and were some of these from major pop stars in Sweden?
G: Some of the tracks are from really, really major artists and some are from artists who never
really made it outside Sweden or even made it commercially in Sweden. Anton is actually the
expert for this mix..
A: The tracks might seem kind of obvious to a swede. It..s got some tunes from the
revolutionary movement during the 70..s, some cheese from the 80..s, some ABBA-related
stuff...
What's music made in Sweden like these days?
It's very versatile. We got loads of great musicians and producers and at least I think that we
also have a lot of potential in song writing. Indie groups as well as commercial stuff quite often
comes oute quite nice. And for how dance music works we got some good things happening.
All of the Stockholm crew with all their expertize in techno and house music, the leftfield scene
here in Gothenburg. There are a good little clique in Malmö that are doing a good things as
well. We don't really have a huge club scene and many things are based on hype, it's
necessary due to the fact that we're so few living in such a big country. We can't really spin all
the time, and to do great gigs you have to get your ass abroad, That's why EVERYBODY make
music or run their own label.
Do you have any other projects on the go and what releases / remixes can we look forward
to? I know Goran is releasing solo stuff and Anton is part of Tiedye …
G: Right now I'm working on a remix for swedish artist Kleerup, I hope he likes it. Also I got
some collaboration with Erik Sidung for remixes and our own productions on the more techy
side of house !
A & E: We are focusing on the Tiedye-project. We just finished a remix fo DJ Kaos (out on
DFA/Rong soon). Besides the remixes we are trying to get the album done. We have an
upcoming EP on Italians in a few months.
How would you describe your musical roots ... electronic or rock?
G: Indie rock for me I guess. But since I started djing it's definitely electronic. No limits though!
A: I grew up with Punkrock, used to play in hardcore-bands during the 90..s. So i..d say im from
rock if those are the alternatives.
How did you guys meet?
We met somewhere in Gothenburg skateboarding in the sunset.
What's the scene like in Gothenburg ... is there an appreciation of your balearic / disco /
rock sound?
Definitely. We've worked a long time for it and now it's really taken root. We have our spots and
we..re still amazed that this kind of sound works so good for such a broad crowd.
Do you dj anywhere regularly or do you have any gigs lined up?
Goran is a part of party night-The Eye at Nefertiti, which has a more house and techno type of
sound. Anton is the booker and resident at the Disco-boat "Styrbord Babord", where Goran
does Thursdays as well. Besides being a part of the band Fibes oh Fibes Edvin plays a local
china-restaurant all the time. We all travel and play all the time.

G: Mark E, Jacob Korn, Franck Roger, Basic Soul Unit, Stefan Goldmann, Xaver Naudasher,
Diskjokke, Toby Tobias, Lars Behrenroth, Wareika, Luis Davis, Quiet Village.
A: Italians-family, Dj Kaos, Rune Lindbaek, Crinan, Idjut boys, Soft Rocks, Still Going and
Thomas Bullocks new stuff is great aswell.
